With rising fuel costs and a financial situation all over the world, 2009 seems like a year, since most families will spend their valuable leisure time in their home country. As a child, our family very rarely traveled abroad for our annual holidays, instead we would have many weekends and weeks during the year in caravan sites up and down the country.
My first memory of these holidays was in a large, old caravan somewhere on the east coast of Scotland, but eventually, we eventually bought our own touring caravan. It was at this time that our weekend breaks soared, and it seemed like most Friday evenings after school would be spent traveling. Often the camp sites we visited were no more than an hour from our house, but in some cases they could go up to two or three hours away.
Regardless of whether we had a rest in the old caravan or caravan van, we always had fun and discovered a new place to explore. As a child, it seemed wonderful, and it must have been a journey and study of experiences that lead me to become a caravan enthusiast in adulthood. Over the years, I have taken my family throughout the United Kingdom and in many cases throughout the English Channel to France, Germany, Switzerland, in fact, many of the countries of continental Europe.
As mentioned earlier, there are two types of caravans, static and touring. What I haven't mentioned yet is the motor house. These are your 3 options when considering a caravan holiday, and although they may all seem the same, they are actually very different from each other.
The tourist caravan will be towed by your car of your choice. Right from the choice of tour caravan you will depend on the size of your car. Tourist caravans are available from a small double berth, easily towed by an average family car to six seats, which will require something more substantial, like four x four. With a static caravan, you will not use a car to get it to any site, but then again once at your site of choice, it will be there for a long time, you better enjoy this area! The engine of the house takes away any need for a separate device to pull out the caravan, since this is a car and a caravan in one package. However, the lack of a motor home, once installed at your place in the camp, you lost your transport. You will often see automobile houses with bicycles attached to the rear or even small motorcycles, and in some cases you can even see a large motor home towing a very small car!
The inner space of any caravan is limited, but in a static caravan the available space can be used better, with separate living areas and bedrooms. In the tourist caravan and motor homes there is a recreation area that doubles when your bedroom comes in the evening. Storage of clothing, food and everything else that promotes good rest can also be a problem for tourist caravans and car houses. With limited space, you are forced to choose which items you want to take on vacation, and those that you want, but cannot fit. Obviously, with the old caravan, which you often visit, you will leave a lot of your clothes and kitchen utensils there which reduces the need for transportation.
The third and final consideration in deciding a caravan tour, a static caravan or a motor house is a luxury. While the basic caravan model can include a refrigerator, toilet and heater, luxury models can include a stereo system, shower cabins, satellite TV, microwave ovens and double glazing. In fact, today most of the items found in your home can be found in caravans.
If you spend caravanning with children, the main tourist caravan will be a great addition to your family, adding flexibility to the resting places. For a little more luxury for your money, check out what you have for cars, but remember that there is a problem with transportation. Finally, if you are a special place in your heart, then you can get a static caravan to visit any time of the year.
