If you can’t face yet another winter playing golf in watertight rooms, wearing hats and mittens and putting on frosty greens, it’s worth going to one of the many winter resorts for the winter sun in Europe, Africa and Asia.
Here is a handy guide to 5 winter golf winter activities.
TENERIFE
This volcanic Spanish island is one of the Canary Islands and is a popular holiday destination because of its year-round spring, such as climate, an average of about 28 degrees with a bright blue sky.
In just three hours of flight from the UK and continental Europe to Tenerife, there are nine quality golf courses, and the major is located in the south of the island near the lively tourist resorts Playa de Los Americas and Los Cristianos.
Abama Golf is the newest course on the island, adjacent to a luxury hotel, and Tecina Golf on the beautiful island of La Gomera is well worth the ferry from the port of Los Cristianos. It is located on the cliff tops overlooking the ocean and on the background of Mount Teide volcano.
Strongly salted canarian potatoes and green salsa green emblems are required.
TUNISIA
This North African nation is a great success with French, Italian and German golfers, as well as Morocco. This made our winter list warmer because of its sunny climate and variety of golf facilities - 12 courses - and availability with a flight time of three to four hours from mainland Europe.
The best places to play golf in Tunisia are in the popular resorts of Yasmine Hammamet and Port El Kantaoui and Monastir, which sit on the Mediterranean coast.
Prices are reasonable, courses are good, if not exceptional, and in some hotels you can experience five-star luxury of four stars.
In Tunisia, you can experience the novelty of the game of golf against the background of camels and pink flamingos. Off course, it is fun to bargain in the bazaars and try Arabic pipes, devilishly strong coffee and fragrant teas.
SPAIN
Although it may not be hot in Spain in winter, the temperature is usually mild and plays in shorts and T-shirts, which is not uncommon even in November or January. For this reason, the European Golf Center has created a list, and because of the wealth of high-quality resorts and courses and the number of convenient incoming air routes - from low-cost airlines to national carriers.
You are spoiled for choosing where to play, but the Andalusian region is a good bet due to its southern location, warmer climate and excellent courses in Jerez and Cadiz.
Montecastillo is a first-class resort near the Jerez Formula 1 chain, and near the hotel there are excellent coastal courses in Costa Ballena and Novo Sancti Petri.
You may even see Miguel Angel Jimenez, who goes to Ferrari.
TURKEY
Turkey is a golf course on the rise and quickly became a popular winter golf course for British, German and Scandinavian travelers. Over the past decade, some of the largest golf courses have built courses on the Belek coast of Antalya Province, known as the “Turkish Riviera”.
Sir Nick Faldo and Colin Montgomery conducted both courses there. The weather in Turkey is very variable in winter, especially in the north, where there is a lot of rain, and in the mountainous West it is often snowing.
The best places for winter golfers are the Mediterranean and Aegean regions in eastern Turkey, where the climate is warm, dry and mild.
Belek has more than 35 four and five star hotels and is our recommendation for a winter golfing holiday.
SRI LANKA
Number 5 on the Global Golfer Winter Heater list is a triple time with a difference. When you think a long time for golf in the sunlight, Sri Lanka probably does not come to mind.
This island of the Indian Ocean is a refreshing change if you are ready to fly 11 hours from the UK and continental Europe and are more suited to the adventurous traveler who wants to discover golf in the wet jungle valleys and hills where Ceylon tea is grown.
It is better to fly to the capital of Colombo and play in the exclusive but affordable Royal Colombo Golf Club.
From there it's a good long way to Kandy, the second city of Sri Lanka and the impressive Victoria Club in Deegan. Our favorite, however, is the course at Nuwara Eliya, which has not changed much since it was built by the British army in 1900.
One big positive result is the low cost of food, hotels, green fees and drinks and the unreasonable bustle of the streets and cities of Sri Lanka.
