More than 90 years ago, the Ford Motor Company bought out the Lincoln Motor Company, Henry Ford’s courageous step, to expand his company's access to the luxury market. Ford had an exaggerated success with Lincoln, a luxury brand that in the past held the title of “best selling luxury brand” in 1998. These days, Lincoln surpasses many company nameplates, regularly finishing seventh in the incrementally crowded segment.
Ford has big plans for Lincoln, and revived the name of the Lincoln Motor Company to distinguish this brand from Ford. New models are planned or introduced with the 2013 MKZ sedan, despite the most significant changes that we have seen over the years. Lincoln also serves the MKC Concept, five passenger crossovers that demonstrate opportunities for newer, bolder projects.
Concept car
Like most concepts, MKC was built to measure customer response. And, like most concepts, it can never be built, and its stylistic tips and other design ideas can find the path to a future model. However, good money is on the MKC, which lights up green for production, sometimes appearing by 2015 as the latest Lincoln SUV.
Designing a small cross-country sports truck makes sense, as this segment is one of the fastest growing among the luxury segments. Indeed, over the past year, this segment has grown by 60 or 200 percent over four years. Lincoln wants to get into the game, and MKC will make it possible.
Exterior design
If MKC has a familiar look, then you are an observant person. Lincoln says the concept takes its DNA out of the MKZ sedan, dividing its facial and rear treatments onto a beautifully fashioned body. His shoulders were described as elegant, and his wheel arches flow with the lines of the body concept.
Designers of Lincoln made sure that passengers enjoy optimal viewing of their surroundings. Frameless windows are in the center of this design with a large panoramic roof, which also enhances visual acuity. This roof is what is offered in the MKZ, representing unobstructed access to the sky without the exposure of a convertible.
Inner touch
Inside the Lincoln MKC Concept takes four places. Lincoln uses high-quality materials to present a salon that is as bright as a luxury. These touches include a leather-wrapped stand, crimson stitch accents, side guides for the console, and wood.
Beyond the concept, we know little of what Lincoln means by the hood. Our best thinking is that some type of four-cylinder EcoBoost engine will use this model, perhaps the diesel version presented later. In any case, the Lincoln MKC Concept may soon become a reality, extending the Lincoln line to uncharted compact vehicle territory.
