As they said, " With a shield or shield. “I don’t really want to go home, I went to a big level: the Cadillac XTS and Jaguar XJL were great. In the past, the Cadillac and Jaguar were the top of large luxury sedans for their countries of origin. Driving in the 1960s, Cadillac Sedan de Ville meant something. It means luxury. It means quality. This meant that you managed Cadillac cars. On the other side of the pond, driving the Jaguar Mark IX meant almost the same thing, only with a lot of tea.
Then came the dark times. Since the mid-to-late seventies, the quality, reliability, beauty and desirability of both automakers have been tanked. High gas prices, new safety and environmental regulations and poor design were once pursued by luxury sedans around the world. Only recently have both brands turned. The resurrections of both Jaguar and Cadillac were noted above all by major design changes. Cadillac accepted Art and science “Design strategy, and Jaguar - everything except the jumping cat's ornament, in favor of modern elegant designs. Shortly thereafter, advanced technologies were developed for new-fangled options and standard performance.
As a fan of both Jag and Caddy, as far as I remember, I was very excited when I had the opportunity to drive the 2013 Jaguar XJL and the 2013 Jaguar XTS very close. How are they? Rest assured, the glory days of Cadillac and Jaguar are just beginning. What's better? You just need to keep reading to find out ...
2013 Jaguar XJL Supercharged
Those familiar with the Jaguar XJ of yore will remember the traditional design with four headlights, a long relatively flat hood, a tall greenhouse and plenty of wood and leather inside. A few years ago, everything changed. Ye olde XJ was killed with the introduction of a new, elegant, more modern and modern XJ. At first I was a little confident in the new direction of design. But over time, my opinion has changed.
In 2013, Jaguar offers cavalcade trim levels and engine options for the XJ, ranging from the base XJ to $ 73,200 (before going to the Rolls Royce Ghost) XJ Ultimate for $ 155,000. Engines include a 3.0-liter supercharged V6, suitable for 340 horses, a 5-liter naturally aspirated V8 with 385 horses, a 5-liter supercharged V8 with 470 horses, and the top dog - 5.0 liters with a supercharged V8 with a hoof 510 horses Jaguar releases 550 XJR horses for 2014, but for the sake of today's article, we ignore that.
Our tester was a supercharged RWD Jaguar XJL with 470 horsepower 5.0 liter V8 and almost all possible options. Like I said, go home, right? The base price for the XJL Supercharged is $ 92,600, but our price is $ 105,250. What do you get for more than 105 thousand dollars? A lot of:
- Absolute Black Metallic Body Color: Included
- 20-inch Orona wheels with tire performance: $ 1,000
- Leather heated steering wheel: included
- Carbon Fiber Interior: Included
- Ivory leather seats with an airy black upper fascia with contrasting stitching and inscriptions from the chest: $ 775
- Heated windshield with timer: $ 375
- Illumination package: 1700 USD
- Comfort Pack Back Seat: $ 3500
- Front seat massage: $ 800
- Back Seat Entertainment: $ 2,200
- Adaptive cruise control: $ 2,300
- 825 W Meridian sound system with 17 speakers: enabled
- Bluetooth audio streaming: enabled
- Navigation: enabled
- DVD player: Enabled
- Hard disk to store up to 10 CDs: Included
- And leading the standard equipment
Suffice it to say that even without the extra options, the XJL Supercharged has almost any function you could ever want, and many that you would never have thought of. Alright, so this is the story. Big, expensive, loaded Jag: Check. Open road: check. Keys: check. Gas: check. Good to go.
Immediately after getting into the 2013 XJL, you can really say that there is absolutely nothing to do with the previous XJs, except for the Jaguar head in the middle of the steering wheel. Gone is a slightly claustrophobic feeling. Gone is the nineteenth century Englishman style. The new XJ has a modern functional design and is not just spacious in terms of measurement. It feels roomy. There is no claustrophobia. The long dash curve reminds me of sitting at the helm of a yacht. The visibility of each window is excellent, except for the rear. You can not see anything. The rear seats and trunk are too high, and the window is too small.
The seats are soft, comfortable and have eighteen-way adjustment, so there is no reason not to find the perfect driving position. In fact, it is almost too customizable. I found myself fighting forever, trying to get just the right feeling. Fortunately, there is a memory, so you only need to do it once. If you have a cold butt, back or both, you can turn the oven backrest and seat back to the desired position. If the baking problem is more related to your problem, the ventilated seats and seat backs immediately turn your greedy tuchus into a cold rumble. The huge rear seats in the rear seats 44.1 inches are also heated and cooled.
Since it was about 85 degrees outside, I chose the ventilated seats and the crankshaft to my zone of four-zone climate control up to 66 degrees. Great A / C! As a person who often travels to Florida, this A / C was certainly one of the best I've seen. Massage seats are also pleasant, although I would not recommend using them while driving, they may be too relaxing.
Most vehicle functions are controlled via an eight-inch touchscreen. Since I led the Buick Reatta with a DOS touchscreen, I have had an illogical (but understandable) disgust for touchscreens. XJL is clear, convenient, and (most importantly) intuitive to use. Fortunately, temperature and sound controls are good, old-fashioned buttons and knobs. In fact, it is a very good combination of touch screen and physical control.
This brings me to the Meridian Surround Sound audio system from 17 speakers. Good gravy, it's awesome! Regardless of the fact that you modestly enjoy the best Brahmins or Metallica fuses, the high frequencies are clear and crisp, the middle range is flawless, and the bass is determined without distortion with the volume that my ears can handle.
Enough to mess around, time to get there. The Jaguar XJL has that pop-up, winding knob for the gear selector that Jaguar loves so much. This, of course, looks cool, it appears when you turn on the car, but there is a slight wobble and give in the pen that I really don't like. But I will make it a test car that was beaten and beaten to hell and back. I twist the car to go and drive.
This car has a lot of energy. Much more than I would have expected at 4 195 pounds. The 470 horsepower and 424 lb-ft supercharged V8s propel the big Jag to 60 in about 4.9 seconds and send the XJL Supercharged to top speed with an electronic limit of 155 miles per hour. The attack on gas is a bit of a surreal experience. You really do not feel like a car 206.6 inches long, and 74.6 inches wide should stand up and go with such a large sword. But it is so. However, the acceleration is not sharp. Like the XFR-S, which we tested a few weeks ago, the XJL Supercharged is smooth.
A six-speed gear shift is oil when it is automatic or sporty, and very, very quickly when using paddle switches. Acceleration is linear and constant until you need to slow down. And when you slow down, you do it with a vengeance. Large brakes slow you down to creep in no time. In fact, when I first “tapped” the brakes to slow down, I almost walked all the way. It took a second to get used to them. The sludge is on the brakes, and you will go with 60 miles per hour to stop about 103 feet.
In the straight line, the steering is as smooth as the trance. Not a hint of drama that goes on in the corners. XJL handles very (you guessed it) smoothly. There is only the slightest hint of a roll of aluminum body with a reliable rotational speed, but the adaptive air suspension and Active Dynamics system do an excellent job. It will reach 0.88 g in turns. With regular driving, I could not ask for a better car. This is not a wow ha Jaguar XJ from the old. Jaguar XJL Supercharged is definitely not a boat, so there is no reason for seasickness. It is also not a crazy super sedan like the Audi RS6. It perfectly balances comfort and performance.
I had the opportunity to really throw the car around a few turns with the collapse, we say, dubious traction. I have to admit that thrust control, adaptive suspension and active differential made the whole experience decidedly less scary for my passenger Christina. Turning all the babysitter controls and the big Jag was very, very easy to get back on line when they were forced to enter. (Yes, I drifted Jag XJL for $ 105k. It was fun.)
After several drift angles, it is time to return the big Jaguar. When I got into the car, I was not sure what to expect. But, I confess, I was pleasantly surprised. In addition to some problems with rear visibility (which are greatly facilitated by the rear-view camera) and the wobbly gear shift, the 2013 Jaguar XJL Supercharged is a phenomenal car. Even my passenger, wife and co-tester Crisin (who always disliked the Jaguars) were very impressed and thoroughly enjoyed the car. For those looking for a large luxury sedan, take a look at the 2013 Jaguar XJ and XJL. Is it better than the new 2013 Cadillac XTS? You need to continue reading to find out.
2013 Cadillac XTS Platinum
Cadillac, a favorite car of Johnny Cash, Elvis and several presidents. (Kennedy had Lincoln and looked at what happened to him.) The cars from the brand, named after the founder of Detroit, were so good that they referred to something like Cadillac It was the best. (Only one other car had this honor, Duenberg led to the saying it Doozy .) Sometimes in the mid-1970s, the Cadillac was shackled to the environment, protected by Ralph Nader, the death of a design for American cars and the total lack of American automobile desirability.
That was until Cadillac released CTS in 2002. At that moment, the caddy returned. Their resurrection and full makeup brand were developed with the release of the 2013 Cadillac XTS, the flagship large luxury sedan line. If Johnny Cash were today, he ordered it at Black Raven.
Having just launched the 2013 Jaguar XJL Supercharged, I thought it was time to build it against the big Caddy. Our tester was a FWD Cadillac XTS Platinum with a 304 horse 3.6-liter Direct Injection V6 and a six-speed automatic transmission. Base price is 58 160 USD. We had a lot of options and accounted for 62,470 dollars. To be specific, here is the download of our Cadillac XTS Platinum tester:
- Black diamond knitted dye: 995 US dollars
- Jet Black / Light Wheat, Opus Leather Seats: Included
- Polishing aluminum wheels 20 inches: included
- Driver Assistance Package with HUD: $ 2,395
- Heating and cooling: included
- CUE Information and Means Management System: enabled
- 14 Bose loudspeaker sound system: enabled
- Natural voice recognition: enabled
- Adaptive cruise: included
- Automatic front and rear braking and preparation for a collision: enabled

- Automatic rear and manual side windows of the Umbrella: included
- Heated leather steering wheel: Enabled
- Navigation: enabled
- Side and rear collision alerts on HUD: included
- And leading the standard equipment
An option for the option, the Cadillac is simply equipped for the Jaguar. As for performance, then sixty comes in 6.8 seconds, and the maximum speed is a respectable 130, not as fast as the Jaguar, but fast enough. In size, the Caddy is about the same as the Jaguar XJL, at 202 inches long, 72.9 inches wide, and 4,006 pounds. Like the Cadillacs, the XTS has a huge eighteen cubic foot trunk, more than enough for several bodies ... er ... for golf.
Thus, in addition to speed (which makes sense, since the Jag is 164 horses more than the Caddy) and the price (Caddy is 42780 dollars less than that of the Jaguar), these two cars are very similar to paper. Yes, I understand that a better comparison would be between the XTS Platinum and the 3.0-liter V6 XJL portfolio (340 hp and $ 76,700), but you work with what you got.
As they say, how good is Cadillac XTS Platinum in 2013? In a word, good. I spent a lot of time in the 2011 Cadillac CTS, which always impressed me with the quality of my drive. But, if you do not get the CTS-V, this generation CTS lacked a little in terms of the quality of the materials and the fitting. Not so with the 2013 XTS Platinum. As soon as you sit down, the quality of the interior practically sings, especially if you compare it with a Mercedes-class Mercedes E-Class, where you don’t even get leather seats. The interior design is modern, functional, but still feels like a Cadillac. Wood trim is actually wood. There are no spaces between the various components. It is very well designed and well combined.
The leather of the XTS Platinum seats is soft and stretchy. Although they are not as good as the Jaguar, the seats themselves offer as much support as you need, with almost infinite tuning. Even the depth of the head restraints is adjustable. As in XJL, I am happy for the memory of the place, since I am publicly trying to find the perfect driving position. After a while I ever find it. It's actually hot again, so I use ventilated seats that are powerful enough to split my pants. I really love this car.
Looking around and adjusting the mirrors, I find that the visibility is gorgeous from every window. Better than XJL. The only big blind, caused by very wide C-pillars. Fortunately, monitoring a blind track that vibrates my chair and floats on my HUD, if I'm going to do something.
The four-speaker sound system with the Bose Surround Sound is great. I have always been a fan of Bose, and they do not disappoint the XTS. The sound is clear, clear, clear and rich on all channels and all bands. I would say that it is as good as the Jaguar Meridian system, although not as powerful. The whole shebang is controlled by the CUE Cadillac entertainment system via a large touch screen or touch buttons like the iPod. It really looks great and works great. It is intuitive and easy to navigate, but I guess it can work well after 70,000 or 80,000 miles. Time will tell.
The XTS has a six-speed trance that is controlled (held on your hats) with a regular gear selector. No twisty knobs or buttons here. Anyway, the presence of a solid, hard, normal gear selector is nice. Getting started, you immediately notice that the XTS can do well with thirty or forty horses and a few gears. This is by no means sluggish, but you cannot call it cheerful. Get up to 4,000 RPMs and a 5200 spinning oil zone and the car will fire confidently. As I said, this car is front-wheel drive. Therefore, when the pedal fell, I was expecting much more torque. In fact, it was very, very small. The XTS accelerates in a straight line, without real adjustment on the steering wheel.
Driving along the road with speed, and the Cadillac XTS Platinum is confident and smooth. It in no way remotely resembles the old DTS or STS. These were soft boats that took every blow, and turned like waves into open water. The XTS is sleek and comfortable, and by no means rolls due to magnetorheological shock.
In turns, the XTS will reach 0.83 g. He is very pleased with the curves. I had no doubt to push him (and in some cases to him) his limit. The steering is fast and accurate with 2.6 revs locking. The Brembo big brakes are similar to the CTS-V and the scrub accelerate very, very efficiently. The stopping distance from 60 to 0 is 116 feet.
The full-color heads-up display is surprisingly clear and gives only the right information, without being distracted. Basically, the 2013 Cadillac XTS is the best new breed of Cadillac. This is convenient if you are a passenger, even if you are 40 inches behind your feet. It is interesting if you are a driver. And, having exceeded just over $ 60,000, this is a huge dollar value.
the court's decision
So basically what is better, 2013 Jaguar XJL Supercharged or 2013 Cadillac XTS Platinum? Both are the best idea that their respective brands were designed by designers, each headed by a midsize sedan (Jaguar XF and Cadillac CTS). Both are large, very well-appointed luxury sedans. Unfortunately, this is a split. I like the interior better on XJL. I like the look of the XTS. XJL has better drive and performance is much better. XTS cheaper by 40 thousand dollars. I could buy an XTS and used Lotus Elise for the price of a Jaguar. It all comes down to the following: if you want a big, fast, phenomenal sedan and money, this is not a thing, get a Jag. Если вы хотите большой, удобный, феноменальный седан и иметь «ограниченный» бюджет, получите Caddy. Вы действительно не можете ошибаться в любом случае.
