There are so many cruise options today, how do you know what to choose? Here is some information about the various options. Think of the five categories of cruises.


  • Short cruises to no. Forty-eight hours to three day cruises focus on events and activities on the ship itself. The goal is hours of fun on board. Carnival cruise lines defended this concept. Royal Caribbean offers a variety of 3-4 day cruises to the Bahamas, Bach, Mexico and the Western Caribbean. Disney offers a three-day cruise that takes you to their private island, Castaway Cay. It can be great weekends or cheap ideas about travel.


  • Casual, "you choose" cruising These cruises are distinguished by a limited dress code, formal dinners, open meal times, an “come as you please” atmosphere. Norwegian cruise lines and Princess cruise lines offer many of these types of cruises. Many interesting excursions are available in different ports of call.


  • Family Cruising , Cruises are no longer just for couples. Cruises have become popular among families, regardless of whether you are one parent or several generations. You can decide to spend time together and when to spend time separately. Kids camps and teen clubs allow adults to be adults. Many cruise lines offer babysitting services so you can enjoy the nightlife. Disney's cruise line is known for just that, but all major cruise lines offer cruises for children.


  • Romantic, old-fashioned cruises These are traditional cruises, complete with formal gowns, Captain lunches, cocktail time and designated places and leisure time. These cruises are quiet romantic old cruises. Usually smaller ships in any of the major cruise lines offer these types of amenities. Crystal Cruise Line is known for the small luxury cruise. Activities and excursions in various ports of call are a great feature of these cruises.


  • Sailing cruise. Windstar offers sailing cruises. (They have backup engines). These cruises have small ships and more exotic ports.
