It all started back in 1994. My boyfriend (now husband) asked if I was going to visit Rendezvous ... "Rende who"? Rendezvous is also called primitive camping ... camping / living, as it was according to our American history / heritage. My husband has met in Germany since the early 1980s. He tried to explain the experience of camping, describing specific events that, in his opinion, may be of interest to me. He first described my clothes. I would wear a long white shirt (damn it, this shirt, it sounds terribly hot!), A floor-length skirt made of wool, flax or cotton (it really sounds hot! And not especially my cup of tea), moccasins (now it sounds cool! ) or other “suitable shoes”, you know that with large brass buckles in front (YUK) and other strange attire, our ancestors (women, I hope) wore in 1700-1800. ,
Then he went on to tell me that I could throw knives and tomahawks (now it sounds like FUN!), I could shoot a primitive bow, shoot a target, or go ahead (what the hell is this?) Using my rifle or a smooth rifle. .. oh YIPPEE! As soon as I felt comfortable, I could participate in many competitive games / sports and show off my wonderful skill ... I just like the challenge!
So, I thought, “What the hell, I'm adventure, and I'm proud to be trying to do something at least once. So, we go on an adventure, back for 300 years and get out on some semblance of American history ... Well, here is the interesting part. In my opinion, I have envisaged several white tents with a canvas at a campsite, strategically placed on acres or two, to ensure a certain degree of confidentiality ... I ask too much? Well, I come to find camping, nothing but private and solitary ... We are talking about THOUSANDS of people (depending on the event, often 5,000 people and 2,000 tents). In any case, we come to the event and choose our camp ... it's really great that only our camp measures about 60 feet long and about 30 feet wide, and many other tourists have their tents and flies strategically placed to ensure privacy when they want it. The design of the tent (tent, wedge, wall, tipi) also determines how private your camp can be. I liked having such a huge fly, which would mean if it was raining, I could still sit outside, protected by a fly, and listen to the rain, read a book or play the guitar.
I really overcome the initial shock of camping among so many people. In fact, I learned to seek solitude when I wanted it ... and found others, like me ... some of them were fishing, others were playing music, some were working on such crafts as jewelry making, leather works, some hung around a horse camp or just sat in their camp and read books. What really made me open up and cover this scene was that everyone else was here for the same reason, to get away from the stresses of full-time work, without having to interact with ornery / moody employees and bosses, without cell phones Egypt computers (we must imitate every aspect of the time period ... remember?). Best of all, we were hundreds of miles from our daily lives. Depending on the location, we were sheltered in the mountains, along the river, in a state park, or around a lake.
Cooking is absolutely useful for these events. So many people with so many recipes. I never thought that cooking in a cast-iron pan, a Dutch oven or other pieces of cast-iron cookware could be so interesting (depending on what you think of, of course!). My husband and I must have 150 pounds of cast-iron cookware to include a Dutch oven or two, several large bevels, wafer iron, and many other items. The coolest, no one is in a hurry for a date, so if you want to prepare a new recipe, you have a whole day to be creative, and most of us do!
Well, sixteen years later, I still participate in these events and met wonderful, interesting people along the way. Every new year, I look forward to meeting friends and getting to know the music, food and fascinating stories about my adventures throughout the year.
