Ferrari luxury sports cars have always been notable for their special proximity to the association of not only the racing world and the highest levels of the Formula One Grand Prix, but also a popular choice for the rich and famous.
A Ferrari parked outside an expensive boutique or cafe in Monaco would never “look out of place,” would it? This is probably due to the fact that Ferrari sports cars always have an encouraging great price to go with their image of wealth for their owner.
With this in mind, cars belonging to celebrities, Hollywood actors and famous people have always attracted even more attention than those who were less able to find counter parts. Therefore, when some of these limited cars get on a classic car auction or are announced that they will be sold, madness in the media begins, as well as the selling war for the top price.
In a recent classic car auction at Silverstone, the rare 2003 Ferrari 575 Maranello, just 10,000 miles on the odometer, was historically sold for £ 66,000 and was bought by an unknown private buyer. What was unique in this car was its origin from its famous previous owners.
The fact that this Ferrari was not just rare, but its previous owners; Eric Clapton, the legendary guitarist and BBC radio host, and TV presenter Chris Evans, both of whom are huge fans of Ferrari themselves.
Over the past few years, Chris Evans has been in the world of the automotive world and has gone out of it, and his growing collection of Ferrari, which now includes seven in composition. But his latest acquisition is the one everyone is talking about. This is a very rare 1960 Ferrari 250 California Spyder, which cost more than 5 million pounds at auction. What makes this classic car even more special is that its only number out of 56 cars ever produced this model, but in fact it belonged to the last (beautiful) film actor James Coburn, who was a massive fan of Ferrari.
James Coburn got his love of cars from his father and was believed to have turned autobio-fanatical actor Steve McQueen into Ferrari sports cars back in the early sixties.
Other celebrities and stars who love Ferrari sports cars are likely Jayro from Jamiroquai, who had several Ferrari; Ferrari F40, 360 Spider, Ferrari Enzo, Ferrari 456GT. Veteran rock singer Rod Stewart also owns the Ferrari F40, 360 Spider and now the new Murcielago.
The film and television star Joanna Lumley has a classic Ferrari 328 GTS Targa, where as the lead guitarist for the rock band Who also has a passion for Ferrari, since Pete Townsend currently owns Ferrari 550 Maranello.
