The Ford Escape Hybrid is an economical, gas-electric hybrid version of a small four-door sports car, available with front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (4x4). Its powertrain is equipped with a 2.3-liter four-cylinder gas engine producing 133 hp. at 6,000 rpm, with a torque of 129 lbs. ft at 4,500 rpm; 94 hp synchronous AC motor from 3000 to 5000 rpm; 330-volt battery under the rear cargo floor; Electronically controlled, with a continuously variable transmission. The maximum power is 155 hp, because gas and electricity do not provide maximum power at the same time.
It is equipped with a 2.3-liter Atkinson four-cylinder petrol engine with a 70 kW permanent magnet traction motor, recuperative braking and a 330-volt battery. The combination provides performance on a par with the V-6. The hybrid should never be connected, because the engine recharges the batteries with an electric motor and heats up like energy during braking.

Unlike electric cars, hybrids should never be connected to a charger. Regenerative braking recharges the Ford Escape Hybrid, which converts an electric motor into a generator to help recharge the battery during stops; and a charging system powered by a gas engine.
Designed to last the entire lifespan of the car and can be found under the Escape cargo floor, a rechargeable battery containing 250 small batteries, roughly equal to the dimensions of D cells installed in series, does not disturb the cargo space.
Software and computerized controllers that do everything efficiently are the key to the hybrid. Small icons define the Ford Escape as a hybrid. The instrument panel is slightly different because it contains a sensor that indicates when the motor is a power source and when the gasoline engine is running. The optional LCD display in the center stack provides instant and average fuel economy, as well as a graphic representation of how power flows at any time.
The hybrid Escape engine is closed at ease to save fuel. When driving is resumed, a 70-kilowatt SUV traction engine generator can start a car based on electricity. When necessary, the generator starts the gas engine without increasing emissions from starting a conventional engine.
The Escape Hybrid also produces as little as half of carbon dioxide (greenhouse gas) as a normal gas engine. It produces 97 percent less hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides than vehicles that meet current emission standards. This qualifies it to develop standards for advanced zero-emission technologies (AT-PZEV).
