This cotton consists of very long fibers, longer than any ordinary cotton grown anywhere. Some believe that this improved cotton is the result of the climate where it grew. Fabrics made from this cotton are incredibly absorbing and, due to the close number of threads, show minimal shrinkage during washing. When choosing a new bath towel, choose one that has a higher number of threads. Good towels usually have at least 600 grams per square meter. If the towel does not have a GPM marked on its label, then most likely it is not made with one of the higher numbers. This is a great selling point for towels, and therefore, if it is not listed to inform the consumer, then it will probably not have a higher gram per square meter.
When you come home with new Egyptian cotton towels, rinse them thoroughly to make a stiff fabric a nice soft and healthy item. Flushing them before first use also ensures that you rinse any dye that could remain in the production process. Investing in new Egyptian towels is an investment in luxury.
