Any car enthusiast worthy of their salt will know the Alfa Romeo brand, but do you know how they became one of the most important car manufacturers in the world? Founded a hundred years ago in Milan, Alfa Romeo recently celebrated its centenary on June 24, 2010. It all starts in 1906, when the French car manufacturer Alexandre Darracq decided to join forces with Italian investors and create Societa Anonima Italiana Darraca (SAID), the roots of the famous brand. Initially, the company planned to produce its cars in Naples, but the site was replaced with Milan, instead a factory was established there. The new company began as a branch of the business, and manufacturers created Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili, which would be known as ALFA. 24 HP was the first to enter the market, designed by Giuseppe Mérosi.
After World War I, when we earned resources elsewhere, the ALFA plant filed for termination of production for three years, resuming its operation in 1919. Italian entrepreneur and engineer Nicola Romeo became the new director in 1915 and watched the war effort, producing ammunition instead of cars. When car production began again, Romeo changed the company name to Alfa Romeo and released the first model under this new brand: Torpedo 20-30. The car company entered the golden age, producing high-class racing cars, as well as road vehicles for passengers. However, in 1928, Nicola left the firm, and Alpha struggled to maintain her position.
In 1932, with state support, the Alfa Romeo brand was saved, and they took control of the company's management. Under the leadership of Mussolini, Alfa Romeo became a national automotive manufacturer, but in World War II, the plant was badly damaged by bombers. The production of luxury cars has become a mass production of popular models. But after the war, Alfa Romeo managed to keep the pole position as the lead car at the Grand Prix. In the 1960s, he developed the GTA (Gran Turismo Allegerita), which won the Trans-Am Sports Club Club of America. After entering the further financial struggle in the 1970s, the Fiat Group created a new company to manage the production of Alfa Romeo under Alfa Lancia Industriale SpA. Since February 2007, the company has been part of this group, but has been part of the Fiat cohort since 1986,
Alfa has long been a respected car model with Alfa Romeos, rented and bought worldwide, and the company continues to maintain quality, elegance and passion.
