Kitchen lights, also called luminaries, are presented in a variety of styles, colors, shapes and sizes. This gives the user a wide choice of lighting options to choose from.
Some of the most common types of luminaires are:
Ceiling lamps
Ceiling lamps are designed in such a way as to provide general lighting throughout the kitchen. As a rule, they are projected down from the ceiling and are usually the largest part of the lighting found in the kitchen. These lamps can also be hung on the breakfast corner or kitchen table. There are two types of ceiling mounts; concealed ceiling luminaire with glass or diffuser touching the ceiling and semi-pound-ceiling lamps where the bowl protrudes from the ceiling so that it hangs a couple of inches away from it, with indirect light reflected from the ceiling (think of this as top down umbrella).
Chandeliers
Chandeliers are also known as pendant or seamless lamps. Like ceiling lights, chandeliers also hang from the ceiling. However, they require more space in addition to adding more pizzazz than conventional ceiling lights. They provide general lighting and have at least two levers with lights down or light. They are most often used with official canteens or dining tables.
Pendants
Suspended kitchen lamps - decorative lamps. They are usually suspended from the ceiling and offer general as well as task lighting. Most kitchen designers prefer to place them in the surrounding areas or on islands, where there is a dining room, chatting, baking, and cooking. A good example of pendant lighting is a mini pendant, which is typically used for small kitchen spaces and is approximately 12 inches or less. Another example is island light or a multi-color pendant that is great for large rooms that require more lighting.
Wall lamps
Wall lights are types of kitchen lights that are usually mounted on a wall. They can take the form of pins, corresponding to the suspension, ceiling mount or chandelier. They can do the job, accent or general lighting. Some of the common places where wall lights are used include a work of art on either side, a decorative back splash, or are used to create the focus of the cell.
Track lighting
Also known as lighting system railings, this type of kitchen light has a wide range of design flexibility. The track can be long or short, curved or straight. Spotlights, pendants or other kitchen lights can be hung from the track at different points, directions and heights to provide an accent, task or general lighting.
Recessed lights
Also known as lights for lights, this type of kitchen light is located inside the ceiling instead of being attached to the ceiling or hanging from the ceiling. This type of kitchen fitting is the ideal choice for those who prefer inconspicuous decorative lighting. Recessed lighting can provide task lighting, accent or general lighting in the kitchen.
In the cabinet
This type of kitchen lighting comes in mini-road systems, thin strips, surface or small in-depth drives, known as washers. Under cabinets, they are usually installed under wall cabinets to provide task lighting by illuminating work surfaces and counters without projecting shadows. They can also be installed inside cabinets with glass facades.
If most stores have common types of kitchen lighting, all that needs to be done is to evaluate your kitchen to determine the appropriate type of lighting that will create the most desired effect.
