Saint Lucia first visited Europeans in about 1500 and for the first time successfully colonized France, which signed a treaty with the indigenous Caribs in 1660. February 22, 1979 Saint Lucia became an independent state of the Commonwealth of Nations. The island nation celebrates it every year with a public holiday.

Despite the fact that since then it has more significant changes, beauty remains in tact. Marigot has round the clock security and is the port of entry to the island. Opening onto the Caribbean, Marigot Bay is conveniently located 20 minutes south of Castries, the island’s capital, 45 minutes south of Pigeon Island National Park and 60 minutes north of the majestic Pythons.
Rodney Bay is a well-protected lagoon and a good anchor yacht. There are many opportunities for food, fuel and water, boat repairs and everything else a sailor may need. There is even a service for the removal of linen. Rodney Bay is also a customs checkpoint, and the marina provides connections for this purpose. Holding is not the best in the lagoon, and many sailors reported an anchor stretching in the middle of the night. Some of the best beaches are located just a few minutes by boat. There is also a car rental agency for those who want to spend the day exploring the interior of St Lucia. Visit the Pigeon Island National Park, which houses Fort Rodney, an old British military base. Do not miss the incredible Friday spot “jump” on the island of Gros in Rodney Bay. The most popular local drink in Saint Lucia is the Rum punch, also called “Rocket Fuel”, “Jungle Juice” or “The Baby Maker”.
Vieux Fort is located in the southernmost part of Saint Lucia. This is the second largest city on the island and a popular anchorage for yacht charters. In recent years, a new modern part of Vieux Fort has been identified, but if you walk along Clark Street and the roads surrounding it, you will still see what is known as the “Old Town”. On Fridays, go through the open market where you can buy local products such as fruits, land and spices. It is also home to the largest fish market in Saint Lucia, where you can buy some of the best and tastiest fish in the world - from coral fish to tuna.
